Top 5 Priorities for the 2020 General Assembly Session
The Loudoun Chamber is a partner in the five-chamber Northern Virginia Chamber Partnership representing over 120,000 employees across the region. In the 2020 Legislative Session, the Northern Virginia Chamber Partnership will focus on these key areas:
1) Protect Virginia’s Right-to-Work Law.
The Partnership will forcefully oppose any effort to weaken Virginia’s right-to-work law, which protects workers from being coerced to join a union just to keep their jobs, and is a significant reason why businesses choose Virginia to locate and expand their workforce.
2) Provide Parity Funding for George Mason University.
For too long, George Mason University has received far less funding from Richmond than other state universities across Virginia. The Partnership will fight to protect the increased funding the Governor has proposed for Mason in his budget.
3) Support policies that increase access to affordable housing.
Northern Virginia is suffering a workforce housing affordability crisis and the Partnership will fight for policies to meaningfully address this crisis. This includes a proposed Virginia Housing Opportunity Tax Credit program and other measures.
4) Protect against unreasonable mandated employee benefits.
The Partnership supports paid family and medical leave benefits that support Virginia’s workforce, but do not place unnecessary cost or regulatory burdens on employers, especially small businesses.
5) Support continued access to affordable, efficient reliable energy.
Access to clean, affordable and reliable energy sources is essential to Virginia’s economic health. The Partnership supports policies that sustain sound energy policies that balance the needs of Virginia’s environment and economy.
