Behind the Business: Stacey Miller with Inova
Stacey Miller is a very involved Board member here at the Chamber and it’s always fun seeing her smiling face at events. She’s involved in the Business Women of Loudoun, the Health & Wellness Initiative among other committees.
1. What is your job title at Inova and tell us a little bit about what you do?
Government & Community Relations Liaison, West Region. In this role, I represent the Inova Health System in all community and government relations activities in the western region. I manage the Inova Loudoun Hospital Mobile Health Services (MHS) team, which was established as an extension of the hospital’s health care outreach into the community. MHS partners with all members of our community from large corporations and HOAs, to the underserved and uninsured. I represent Inova Loudoun Hospital on the Board of the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce and committees focused on local growth, workforce, health & wellness and public policy. I also work very closely with LCPS and sit on the School Business Partnership Executive Council, which oversees Job for a Day and other activities for students and teachers interested in healthcare careers.
2. How did you get to where you’re at today in your career?
I have had a wonderful and very diverse career. I have a BS in Marketing from PSU and started my career in technical sales & application engineering in the publishing, systems mgmt. industry. From there I moved to AOL, Inc. and was responsible for the launch and product management of their services around the world, along with “other duties as assigned”. That was by far my favorite job in the corporate sector and when I left AOL, I decided to turn my focus on the non-profit sector. During the last 10 years I have worked in development and community relations locally at Inova Health System & Foundation and in DC at The Washington Ballet, See Forever Foundation and Woman’s Foundation.
3. What is your favorite part about your job?
Being out in the community, being a good partner, representing and talking about my hospital home. I have learned so much about what it means to deliver excellent care and service to our community from my colleagues at Inova Loudoun Hospital. Our staff inspires me every day!
4. What is the hardest part about your job?
I love a good challenge so I try not to see any aspect of my job as hard. I will say I have a tendency to always want to do more and learn more. Therefore, I sometimes find myself having to prioritize work and think about work/life balance issues.
5. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
I am a runner girl! I have been running for the last 6 years and run about 25-30 miles a week. I just completed my 30th half marathon in May. I also have a 17 year old who is my world and I love spending time with her.
6. Where is your favorite place to go in Loudoun on the weekends?
I like wine country outings and running out west on the W & O and through local neighborhoods in Loudoun. I also like shopping local, so downtown Leesburg is always a favorite place to stroll around.
7. What is your favorite app?
My Starbucks App and various weather apps, so I know how to plan my outdoor activities.
8. What is one thing that you’ve taken away from working at Inova, a piece of wisdom we can all take away?
I think the most important thing I have taken away from my experience at Inova having an appreciation for everything that goes on behind the scenes to ensure that every day, 24×7, we are caring for the needs of the patients we are privileged to serve. People have choices and our focus on excellence and patient experience is extraordinary. I never knew how many people touch the lives of every person that comes through our doors and I take comfort in that as an employee but more importantly a mom and neighbor. Attention to detail and having passion for your work really does make the difference, I see the impact of that every day!
Thank you Stacey for answering a few questions!
