Spotlight on the Finalist: MoverJunction.com
Thank you Raj Kalra, owner of MoverJunction.com for answering a few questions! Congratulations on your nominations!
1. What would it mean to you and your company to win a Small Business Award?
Just being nominated and among the finalists with such awesome businesses for this award is a huge honor for all of us. Winning the Small Business Award will not only be a huge validation that we are doing something right, It’ll also be a motivation for me and the entire team to keep improving our product and service so we can continue bringing value to our customers.
2. What business person has influenced you the most?
My father. Over the years, he’s started several businesses, succeed at some and not at others. But the biggest thing I’ve taken away from his journey and his life is his zest towards always moving forward, dreaming big and never giving up.
3. If you weren’t running your own business, what would you be doing?
If I wasn’t running a business, I would be travelling to different countries to experience their cultures and way of life. And since I’m an entrepreneur at heart, I’ll get involved with some accelerator or incubator there to help bring others’ business ideas to life.
4. What book are you reading right now?
Purple Cow by Seth Godin
5. What is your favorite app?
Yelp, because I love to travel and try different restaurants and foods. Yelp makes it easier to discover those anywhere I am.
6. If you had a full 24 hours off, and your family was out of town, what would you do?
I’ll go for a long scenic drive. Stop somewhere with an amazing view. Grab a beer and work on the details of my next project.
7. What is the smallest thing that has had the largest impact on your business?
Not getting hung up on minute details but moving thru the build-measure-learn loop as quickly as possible has had the biggest impact on our business in terms of efficiency and time wasted on unnecessary things. By breaking up a project into smaller pieces, we are able to get our product in the hands of the users quicker and then improve based on their interaction and feedback. This not only keeps our team motivated and excited, but also reduces time spent on building something that we later learn didn’t work.
