Black History Month Spotlight: Angela Carter, Carter Group Creative

Thank you to Angela Carter of Carter Group Creative for answering our questions!

Where were you born and raised and, if it was someplace else, when and why did you come to Loudoun?

I was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. We decided to make Loudoun home to our office space due to its accessible location between Northern Virginia and Maryland. We love the charm and walking convenience to restaurants and shops that downtown historic Leesburg offers.

Tell us about Carter Group Creative, and how long you’ve been in your industry.

Carter Group Creative is a creative consulting brand specializing in full-service planning and design for corporate events, social events, and weddings. We launched in 2022 however, I have been in the events industry for two decades. We produce business conferences and events, milestone events, weddings, and other celebratory events.

How did you get into this line of work?

Many years ago, I scheduled meetings at a law firm and ended up loving it! My work eventually blossomed into planning conferences and special events globally.

Have you had any special mentors or inspirations that guided your career?

One of my very first managers, Betty, was a true inspiration. I learned so much from her about hospitality and events early on in my career. She was a class act who was a remarkable event planner. In addition, she always looked so well put together and exuded an “in charge” persona. Even on a down day, she adorned herself with jewelry and always put on a smile. That stuck with me.

What is the best part of your job and why?

For me, the best part of the job is the people. From clients to industry peers, the people we meet along the way are the best part. Whether during networking events or scouting venues for clients, meeting new people (and reconnecting with old) can provide fresh perspectives, and inspiration, and nurture existing relationships.

What is it like doing business in Loudoun?

Loudoun is so diverse! I feel I’m always discovering something new in Loudoun. Whether a one-of-a-kind bookstore or a new eatery, there’s so much to offer. Because it offers so much, we’ve been lucky to have the chamber as a valuable resource during our time here to help us navigate options.

Whenever we meet someone for business who may not be familiar with Loudoun, they usually compliment the area and are happy we got them to visit.

What does Black History Month mean to you?

Black History Month, to me, symbolizes resilience and serves as a reminder of the magnificent contributions we’ve made thus far. I intentionally set out to learn something new about our history, people, and culture to honor the month and enjoy sharing the discoveries with my children.

What are your favorite things to do when you are not working?

When not working, I love spending time with my boys, enjoying a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, arranging flowers, and traveling. A little retail therapy is always a welcomed bonus.
