Thank you to Nicole Wright from Wright Accounting Solutions LLC for being a spotlight for Black History Month! Learn more about the Chamber’s DEIA Committee here.
Where were you born and raised and, if it was someplace else, when and why did you come to Loudoun?
I was born in Milford, Delaware, and raised in Salisbury, Maryland. My mother relocated to Loudoun County, Virginia in August 1997 due to a career change. I graduated from Broad Run High and continue to live and raise my children in Loudoun County.
Tell us about your business, and how long you’ve been in your industry.
Wright Accounting Solutions is a boutique accounting firm providing financial guidance to small businesses for the last eight years. I have held different finance and accounting corporate positions in the past 25+ years within the hospitality, energy, and government contracting industries. Recognizing the demand for financial guidance among small businesses, I have recently transitioned my business into a full-time endeavor, offering fractional CFO solutions to small business owners.
How did you get into this line of work?
My mother used to do taxes for her friends, family, and people within our neighborhood. I remember at age 11 sitting at the dining room table helping to organize papers and receipts into manila folders. One of my favorite jobs was punching numbers on the adding machine and listening to the chimes of the paper rolling. At the age of 14, my first summer job was in the accounts payable department at Piedmont Airlines in Salisbury, MD. I continued with a passion for accounting by getting my bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in Accounting and obtained my master’s in business administration.
Have you had any special mentors or inspirations that guided your career?
Yes, I have had plenty of mentors throughout my career with my mother being my main inspiration. Within the last three years of working to take my business full time, the mentors I do have to thank are Tina Johnson of CEO Consulting Group and Erica P. Rowe of Business Brand Ambassador.
What is the best part of your job and why?
The best part of my job is helping small business owners gain clarity on their finances and giving them peace of mind. I love seeing businesses overcome their challenges and grow their business.
What is it like doing business in Loudoun?
I enjoy doing and supporting businesses within Loudoun County. I love the support we each have for each other’s business. Doing business in Loudoun County provides a combination of strategic advantages, supportive infrastructure, and a high quality of life that makes it an excellent choice for entrepreneurs and business owners looking to establish or expand their operations.
What does Black History Month mean to you?
Black History Month is a time of reflection, celebration, and action, encompassing personal, professional, and societal dimensions that resonate deeply with my identity as a woman of color, mother, and business owner. It is a reminder of the past struggles and triumphs, as well as a call to continue the work of building a more just, equitable, and inclusive future for generations to come.
Favorite things to do when you are not working?
My favorite things to do outside of accounting are spending time with my children doing some crazy activities or cuddling up with a glass of wine while reading a good book.
