Don’t miss our signature holiday event on Saturday, December 2! The event combines the magic of the holidays with recognition of the Marshall Plan countries. Seventeen trees, one for each participating country, will be decorated along the brick walk by the house for all to enjoy until the end of the year.
This year we are celebrating the 70th anniversary of Secretary Marshall’s acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize on December 10, 1953. Please join us to mark this historic moment.
We are also adding a special element to our festivities, with a handbell performance of holiday favorites by Music to Free. Music to Free is a non-profit handbell performance group that teaches the art of playing handbells in low/fixed-income senior living centers, veteran rehabilitation programs and addiction treatment programs in northern Virginia.
Join us on December 2 at 4:30 PM for the handbell performance and the tree lighting ceremony to start the holiday season. The event is free, open to the public and perfect for kids and families. Come back and visit any time until January 6 to see the decorated trees. No entry fee required!
The European Recovery Program was a U.S. program that supplied nearly $13 billion to help finance rebuilding efforts in Europe in the wake of World War II. This program became known as the Marshall Plan because of George Marshall’s role in recognizing its importance and persuading Congress and the American people of its importance. Nearly 75 years later, the 17 nations that participated in the program continue to enjoy the peace and prosperity it helped secure for them.
