Women Leaders in STEM

While jobs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields are growing faster than any others, and pay considerably more, fewer United States citizens are pursuing STEM degrees, compared to their peers in many countries. According to the Pew research Center, women and people of color are significantly underrepresented in STEM jobs, compared to their share of the U.S. population.

What do these facts mean for the U.S. economy and how can America get more women and students of color engaged in STEM related careers and classes?

That is the focus of the Loudoun County Chamber’s “Women Leaders in STEM” program, a discussion with several successful women leaders in STEM related careers here in Loudoun County.

This moderated panel discussion will focus on why these women leaders chose STEM-related fields, the importance of mentors and early engagement had in their education and career choices and how the U.S. can encourage more young women and people of color to consider STEM careers.

Our panelists include:
Diane Foley, Sr. Director, Information Technology & Dulles Site Executive, Raytheon
Staten Longo, Systems Engineer, Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems
Angela Wilson, CEO, SeKON

Moderator:
Angela Mitchell, President and CEO, ARM Consulting, LLC
