Hispanic Heritage Month Spotlight: Melvin Aldana, A Better View, Inc.
Thank you Melvin Aldana, owner of A Better View, Inc., for answering our questions! Get to know more about the Chamber’s DEIA Initiative here.
Where were you born and raised and, if it was someplace else, when and why did you come to Loudoun?
I was born in small town in Guatemala. I came to the USA when I was 13 years old. I studied at TC William High School. I would work part time while I was going to school. After high school, I started to work full time. While working in different fields I started to come to Loudoun county more often. The more I visit Loudoun I enjoy the scenery and the people.
When did you launch your first business and how did you get into your current line of work?
We launched our business in 2017. I launched our business in 2017. Before launching my business, I worked for a company in Loudoun in the same field where I learned a lot from a great person. After he left, I was venturing into other fields. I would get calls from old clients/friends that I had built great relationships with. I took in small jobs and that’s how A Better View Inc started. We started with 3 employees, my wife Ana, brother-in-law Noe, and myself. Now we have multiple crews in the field that have worked with us since.
Have you had any special mentors or inspirations that influenced your career?
I had a great person who taught me a lot and is like a father figure to me. He introduced me to great colleagues and the Loudoun County Chamber which has helped my business tremendously.
What is the best part of your job and why?
The best part about my job is meeting new people with different backgrounds. I honestly enjoy talking to my clients and try meeting all of them as I like to treat them like a family and make sure their home needs are being met. We have a lot of clients whom we have built a really long relationship with who see us more than workers.
What is it like owning/running a business in Loudoun?
It’s great! Is a great place to start a business. People are very social and nice. There’s a lot of business opportunities. I’m very fortunate to serve the Loudoun County community.
What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?
Hispanic Heritage Month means being appreciative of the sacrifice my parents made. Being able to show my two boys that I have reached the “American Dream” and be able to pave the path to greatness for them by seeing how I provide happiness to any culture with my business. One of my greatest accomplishments is to be the top window cleaner and power washer in Northern Virginia run by a Hispanic man. It has filled me and my family with the greatest honor.
What are some of your favorite things to do when you are not working?
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my boys and my wife. We love to go fishing and explore new states/cities on road trips. Once a month we like to do a big meal and invite our families to spend time with them.
