Tell us your story of how your company got to where it is today?
I started Morgan Orthodontics in 2008. We caringly create beautiful smiles on a daily basis. My vision for the office is to provide an elegant service for our patients that is both convenient and personal. I started the practice from scratch in Lansdowne because I live here and wanted to serve same community in which I live. I started with one employee and we have grown to include 12 employees. In our busy county, coming every 6 or so weeks to the orthodontist can be inconvenient. Currently, we provide complimentary limo service to and from school for our patients at 7 area middle schools. Parents have found this service to be very convenient (they don’t have to take off work) and the patients love the limo ride! I am very proud of our office’s support of the local community. We sponsor many school functions, clubs and sports teams throughout Loudoun County every year.
What would it mean to you and your company to win a Small Business Award?
It would be wonderful to be recognized in such a manner as to win a Small Business Award. To me, it would mean that Loudoun County sees the positive impact that we are having in the community and is encouraging the small/local businesses that work very hard to provide services to the residents.
If you weren’t running your own business/working at this business, what would you be doing?
If I wasn’t an orthodontist, I think I would be interested in being an architect. I think it is neat how they design buildings or spaces that can be so different and interesting. In a way, an orthodontist and an architect have something in common as they both need to be able to see the final product in their head before it can be constructed.
What book are you reading right now?
I am constantly reading books. Most of the time I have a few books going at the same time. Right now I’m reading Harvard Business Review 10 Must Reads “The Discipline of Teams”
If you have 24-hours off, and your family was out of town, what would you do?
As a busy mom of a 7 year old, it is hard to imagine this however, I think I would either go the spa or go watch a movie. However, then my guilt would probably kick in and I would also do some organizational project around the house that I never have time for.
What is the smallest thing that has made the largest impact on your business?
I like to take the time to really listen to my patients. I feel that if the patients understand that they are heard then they have a better experience in orthodontics all around. Taking this time to really build that connection has made all the difference in my practice.
Who is the one person that has influenced you the most in your career?
In college, I had a wonderful mentor,Dr. Allen, who was an oral surgeon. He really impacted my life in a positive way and definitely help steer my career decision into the dental field. He allowed me to work in his office and really discover dentistry. Because he was such a big influence in my life, I like to pay this forward by being a mentor to high school students who wish to go into dentistry or orthodontics. I really enjoy mentoring since I know what great impact it can have in a young person’s life.
What is your favorite thing about running a business in Loudoun County?
I love interacting with all of the patients. It really is wonderful to see someone that would not smile due to the malalignment of their teeth improve drastically. The smiles are the reason we are in business.
If you’re not in the office where can we find you?
If I am not at the office, I am normally at home with my family or volunteering at my son’s school (he is in second grade).
What is your favorite weekend activity in Loudoun County?
I really enjoy living in Loudoun County. I can normally be found at the baseball fields watching my son play baseball for Central Loudoun Little League. I also enjoy visiting the fabulous Loudoun County wineries.
