Tell us the story of your business/nonprofit and how it’s evolved.
In 2015, after working fourteen years in health and wellness, I observed a gap between healthcare and fitness. People were being discharged from care by healthcare professionals, wanting to return to active lifestyles, but still experiencing pain, deficits in strength, stability, mobility, or confidence.
There wasn’t a business in Loudoun County specializing in post-rehabilitative care. So, with the belief that movement is medicine and neither injury, nor illness, have to limit the ability to live an active life, I established Function-N-Fitness to provide tailored care that works to eliminate residual functional deficits and bridge the gap between healthcare and fitness.
What are you most proud of when it comes to your team?
I am proud to have found a group of professionals who are as passionate as I am about helping people and teaching them to improve their health through movement and massage therapy.
In what ways do you give back to the Loudoun community?
Annually, we donate several hours of chair massage for employee appreciation and fundraisers and have volunteered training hours with the Virginia Hearts, Loudoun County’s first semi-professional women’s basketball team. Additionally, as a Women’s CEO business school graduate, we patronize and partner with other local woman-led businesses, providing mentorship through lessons learned and resources for growth.
What would it mean to you and your business to win a Small Business Award?
To win a Small Business Award would mean so much to me and my business. With the exposure we would gain, we would be able to reach more people in Loudoun and help them manage their health and move better in life through exercise and massage therapy.
Who is the one person that has influenced you the most in your career?
I have been most influenced by my mother. She was also a small business owner and has always encouraged me to go after my dreams.
What did you want to be when you grew up as a child?
As a child I wanted to be a pediatrician and the first female to play in the NBA.
If you’re not in the office, where can we find you/what is another passion you have?
If I’m not in the office, you can find me spending time with my family or working on my golf game.
How do you see your business evolving in the next 5 years?
We have a goal to add a licensed massage therapist and an office manager to the team of Function-N-Fitness. This will allow us to improve the lives of more of our community members each day through health and wellness care and by providing jobs for our residents.
We also have a desire to purchase additional exercise and massage equipment to enhance our client’s health. New equipment would benefit our clients by providing them with a safer, more effective, and more enjoyable experience.
Our third goal is to further develop some of our current programming to reach those in Loudoun who desire to improve their quality of life through movement. We plan to expand our golf fitness program, virtual corporate wellness program, and our client-lead online wellness courses.
