Women’s History Month Spotlight: Krishna Cart

Thank you to Krishna Cart, MA Ed, NBCT of The Masterpiece Academy for answering a few of our questions!

Krishna Cart, The Masterpiece AcademyWhere were you born and raised, and if it was someplace else, when and why did you come to Loudoun?

I was born and raised in the Philippines, where I founded and operated my own private school. My journey to Loudoun began when I presented my graduate thesis at the International Reading Association (now the International Literacy Association) conference in Texas. After my presentation, I was invited to teach in the U.S., which opened the door to new opportunities.

In 2005, my two sons and I moved to Loudoun, and I began my career here as a Reading Specialist at Frances Hazel Reid Elementary School.

Tell us about your job and how long you’ve been in your profession.

I am the CEO and founder of The Masterpiece Academy, an education support services company that engages, educates, and empowers learners and leaders. We serve both business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) clients, offering customized solutions for students, families, and organizations.

For families, we provide afterschool tutoring, test preparation, and STEM enrichment, ensuring students receive the academic support they need to excel. We offer curriculum development and instructional services for businesses and organizations, collaborating with schools, educational institutions, and corporations to create effective learning solutions. Our team comprises state-licensed teachers, STEM professionals, curriculum developers, and instructional designers, all dedicated to engaging and empowering the next generation of learners and leaders.

How did you get into this line of work?

My calling has been clear to me from an early age. Growing up in the Philippines, I had a small blackboard and chalk in our front yard, and I often pretended to be a teacher. I loved gathering my younger playmates and teaching them how to read and write. To my surprise, they learned! Their parents started asking me to teach them, even bribing me with my favorite “champorado”—a delicious chocolate-flavored rice porridge.

That experience sparked something in me, and I realized that teaching wasn’t just something I enjoyed—it was part of who I was. I believe it is in my DNA, woven into my purpose, and as Psalm 139:13-14 says, “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.” From that moment on, I knew that education was my passion and my calling. This deep love for teaching led me to open my own private school in the Philippines, present my research internationally, and eventually establish The Masterpiece Academy here in Loudoun.

Have you had any special mentors or inspirations that guided your career?

Absolutely! Throughout my journey, I have been blessed with incredible mentors who have shaped my perspective on education, leadership, and innovation. My experiences in Harvard’s Learning Design and Technology program and my current doctoral studies in Education (Curriculum and Pedagogy) at George Washington University have provided me with invaluable connections, insights, and learning opportunities.

Krishna Cart, The Masterpiece AcademyI have been deeply inspired by my professors and colleagues, who bring diverse perspectives and expertise to the field. Their mentorship and shared passion for education have continuously challenged me to grow, refine my approach, and explore innovative ways to empower learners and leaders.

What is the best part of your job and why?

The best part of my job is seeing students grow in confidence and curiosity. Education is more than just academics—it’s about shaping individuals prepared to think critically, solve problems, and make meaningful contributions to society. Knowing that I can help ignite that spark in students is what makes my work fulfilling.

What is it like doing business in Loudoun?

Loudoun is a wonderful place to do business because of its supportive community and innovative spirit. The county is home to forward-thinking families and organizations that value education and professional development, making it an ideal environment for both B2C and B2B services. The collaborative atmosphere allows for strong partnerships and meaningful impact.

Krishna Cart, The Masterpiece AcademyWhat does Women’s History Month mean to you?

Women’s History Month is a time to celebrate the unique contributions and inherent dignity of women, recognizing that both men and women are created in the image of God, as stated in Genesis 1:27: “So God created mankind in his own image… male and female he created them.” This belief underscores that men and women while having distinct roles, are equal in value and significance. As an educator and leader, I am committed to honoring this truth by empowering women to embrace their God-given potential and by fostering environments where both women and men can thrive together in mutual respect and collaboration.

Favorite things to do when you are not working?

My husband and I love studying the Bible and traveling to Biblical sites, archaeological locations, and museums that bring history and Scripture to life. We are honored to serve as hosts for families nationwide through the National Bible Bee, where we help equip and inspire families to know and study God’s Word during the summer.

Another passion of mine is marriage ministry, which my husband and I actively engage in by meeting with couples in our community, fostering meaningful conversations, and encouraging strong, faith-filled marriages.

Lately, I’ve also been deeply invested in my Learning by Design Podcast, where I guide learners and leaders in crafting their success stories through engaging ideas, educated minds, and empowered futures. Through this podcast, I explore innovative ideas, actionable strategies, and inspiring stories to transform education and workforce development. Whether supporting students, equipping educators, or providing professional learning solutions for businesses, my goal is to create impactful learning experiences that drive growth, inspire innovation, and empower every learner and leader.
